Her charmed audience members with her effortless confidence and strong presence, whether she was rescued from the gallows (The Hunchback on Notre Dame in 1939), falling for Walter Pidgeon under a coal noired sky at the beginning of 1941 (How Green Was My Valley) and learning to believe in miracles along with Natalie Wood (Miracle on 34th Street in 1947). Maureen O'Hara was the first biography written about the screen legend, known as the Queen of Technicolor. Aubrey Malone traces the life of the screen legend from Dublin which is where she grew up, to Hollywood's heights. Malone draws his information from Irish Film Institute production notes on films, as well as historical newspapers and magazines. Malone analyzes the actress's close friendship of John Wayne. Malone also discusses her relationship and friendship with John Ford as well. Though she was an icon of cinema's golden age O'Hara's penchant for privacy and habit of making public statements in opposition to her personal values have made her an enigma. The biography that has been released gives us the chance to see the woman who was behind the iconic character of her day.
